Medical Providers FAQ's

Who are your healthcare providers?

Our physicians are medically trained, U.S. board-certified in their specialties, licensed, and credentialed. They hold bachelor's (B.A. or B.S) and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degrees.

Our physician assistants are medically trained, NCCPA certified, licensed, and credentialed. They hold bachelor's (B.A. or B.S.) and Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS), Health Science (MHS) or Medical Science (MMSc) degrees.

Our nurse practitioners are medically trained, ANCC or AANP certified in their specialties, licensed and credentialed. They hold Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degrees.

Our behavioral health team of masters-level professionals includes experienced and accredited Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, and equivalent licensed professionals.

All our providers undergo a rigorous credentialing process based upon guidelines set by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). All our providers are licensed by the applicable licensing boards for the states in which they provide services.

When should I use Walmart Health Virtual Care?

Walmart Health Virtual Care helps address common medical and behavioral health issues. Walmart Health Virtual Care consultations can help treat many common medical conditions; however, a small number of cases may require an in-person visit for complete care.

Urgent Care: You can use our Urgent Care service line for non-emergency or low-acuity conditions that you would typically visit an urgent care, retail clinic or primary care provider for, such as the flu, a cold, allergies, strains, and sprains. See a list of the urgent care issues we treat.

Men's Health: Our Men's Health service line gives men a discreet and comfortable way to seek treatment for private health concerns such as ED, hair loss and skin issues.

Women's Health: The Women's Health service line gives women a safe, convenient, and confidential way to talk to a medical provider about skin issues, birth control, sexual health and more.

Talk Therapy/Teen Therapy: Our therapy lines can be used to address emotional and mental health concerns, such as depression or anxiety. See a full list of the behavioral health issues we treat. Teen therapy is for users aged 10-17 and talk therapy is for users 18+

Psychiatry: Walmart Health Virtual Care's psychiatry service line offers talk therapy, medication evaluations, and monitoring, and other treatments through the convenience of a virtual platform. Walmart Health Virtual Care's Psychiatry line is available to users 18+.

I live in New York, but I'm on vacation in Florida – where should I request my medical visit?

You should request a consultation in the state where you are physically located at the time of the visit. If a provider determines that a prescription is medically necessary, the prescription can be submitted to a local pharmacy of your choice.

Can I cancel my appointment?

es. Walmart Health Virtual Care offers scheduled appointments for our Virtual Primary Care, Men's/Women's Health, Talk Therapy, Teen Therapy and Psychiatry service lines. Patients must cancel a scheduled appointment at least 24 hours in advance of the session to receive a full refund. If the appointment is not canceled in advance, the patient may be responsible for a missed appointment fee.

Urgent Care visits are not scheduled in advance.

What if I'm late or miss my appointment?

Patients can miss up to 40% of their session time and continue with their scheduled visit. Please note that the visit will end at the originally scheduled time and will not be extended if the patient is late. This does not apply to Urgent Care as these visits are not scheduled in advance.

Our therapists and psychiatry providers are available to speak with you about your condition and symptoms. They can help you identify the root cause of the issue, identify solutions for overcoming challenges, and potentially start you on a new regiment of medication (psychiatry providers only).

I have a sinus infection and a weird rash on my arm – can Walmart Health Virtual Care help me with both in one consultation?

Yes! Our board-certified medical providers can usually treat multiple conditions per consultation. Please be advised that it is at the provider's discretion if he/she feels comfortable treating both conditions, and if in-person care is more appropriate.

Can Walmart Health Virtual Care treat conditions such as erectile dysfunction and hair loss?

Yes. Walmart Health Virtual Care providers can treat personal health issues like erectile dysfunction and hair loss in a safe, convenient, and confidential way through our Virtual Primary Care, Men's Health, and Women's Health service lines.

How much does a Walmart Health Virtual Care visit cost?

Getting started is free! If you access Walmart Health Virtual Care services through an employer or another member-based group, your visit cost is determined by the organization's specific plan.

Otherwise, the cost of an Urgent Care visit is $70 and a Men's Health visit or Women's Health visit is $67.

A Therapy or Teen-Therapy visit costs $85 for a 50-minute session.

A Psychiatry visit costs $229 for a 45-minute session, and $99 for a 15-minute follow-up session.

Walmart Health Virtual Care accepts payment from most FSA, HSA and HRA accounts, as well as personal debit and credit cards.

How do I schedule my visit?

What if I have a question but don't need medical care?

What is the program about?

The uninsured and underinsured people who have insurance, but their deductibles are so high they never meet them, and they are paying full price for medicine. Will all prescribed drugs be free; at no cost to me?

Yes, all generic medications are on our formulary.

Can I begin using this benefit right after I sign up, or is there a minimum wait time?

Yes, you can begin using it immediately for home delivery, and at retail pharmacies 24 hours after you sign up.

How long will it take for me to sign up and become activated?

Are my brand name drugs free?

Only your generic medications on the formulary are free with your monthly subscription.

So, brand medication is not available?

Does this plan have over-the-counter medications and are they also free?

Are there any additional costs?

Standard shipping is free. Expedited shipping is $44.95 for next day and $15.00 for second day. If you are purchasing over the counter medications only, shipping is $5.99

Can I have multiple addresses for family members?

All family members must live at the same address. Shipping address can change depending upon circumstances.

How do I get my prescription transferred?

Our pharmacist will contact your local pharmacy or physician and have your prescription transferred to us.

What will the quantity be that I will receive as free?

The quantity will be as per the doctor's order on the prescription. However, there is a maximum qty limit allowed by the program. Charges may occur for maximum quantity limits exceeded.

Do you support 30-day prescriptions? How about 90-days?

Yes, we support 30 day and 90- day prescriptions. The most economical will be a 90-day supply!

Is there a limit to how many prescriptions I can get filled?

At this time, we don't not offer automatic refills, however; we can set you up for SMS text reminders to remind you when your next refill is due.

Prescriptions FAQ's

Can my Walmart Health Virtual Care provider write me a prescription?

Yes! Our medical and psychiatry providers can write prescriptions for medications when medically necessary and in compliance with Walmart Health Virtual Care's prescription policy and federal and state law. Walmart Health Virtual Care providers may also temporarily prescribe a refill for your maintenance medications. Please note that Walmart Health Virtual Care is not a replacement for your primary care physician, treating provider, or annual office checkup. Walmart Health Virtual Care is not an online pharmacy.

Any prescriptions written by Walmart Health Virtual Care providers will be electronically sent to a local pharmacy of your choice for purchase and pick-up.

Walmart Health Virtual Care providers do not prescribe narcotic pain relievers or other drugs listed as controlled substances by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency or State law. Review the DEA Controlled Substances Schedule if you are uncertain whether a particular medication is listed as a controlled substance.

What kind of medications can Walmart Health Virtual Care providers prescribe?

When medically appropriate, Walmart Health Virtual Care providers can prescribe medications to treat your condition, which you can then receive from your local pharmacy. Some common medications that our providers prescribe include:

  • Albuterol inhalers
  • Antibiotics
  • Birth control pills
  • Eye drops for infections and allergies.
  • Nasal sprays for infections and allergies
  • Refills: Limited supply of oral medications for common conditions (e.g., anxiety, depression, cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid)
  • Topical antibiotics and steroid creams

Will my provider be able to prescribe a refill for my prescription?

Our providers will discuss your health history and assess whether a refill is safe at the time of your visit or whether it's prudent to see your treating physician in person. The decision to provide a prescription for a refill and the quantity of the prescription is at the sole discretion of the provider. Walmart Health Virtual Care Urgent Care providers will not start a new regimen of maintenance medication.

For refill prescriptions, Walmart Health Virtual Care providers will not change any aspect of the medication as prescribed by your treating physician. We require proof of a recent prescription for all refills (e.g., photo of your most recent prescription bottle). The prescription must be current and reflect that the patient has taken the medication as prescribed within the last 30 days. For most prescriptions, our maximum refill policy is no more than a 90-day refill within a six-month period. Be sure to share any information you have about your health history and condition that may help facilitate your refill (such as recent lab tests or recent blood pressure readings).

Can Walmart Health Virtual Care providers send prescriptions to Canadian, online, or mail-order pharmacies?

Walmart Health Virtual Care providers can electronically send prescriptions to verified pharmacies within the United States, including mail-order pharmacies. We are unable to send prescriptions to pharmacies outside the United States.

Can Walmart Health Virtual Care prescribe oxygen tanks, wheelchairs, or durable medical equipment (e.g., scooters, splints)?"

Walmart Health Virtual Care providers generally do not prescribe these items because they require monitoring, follow-up, and an in-person physical assessment.

Can Walmart Health Virtual Care prescribe birth control?

Generally, birth control prescriptions are dependent on your medical history and the provider's assessment of the risks and benefits to you. If medically appropriate, Walmart Health Virtual Care providers can start you on a new birth control regimen with an initial 7-month prescription.

If you are currently taking birth control medication, a Walmart Health Virtual Care provider can discuss your health history and assess whether a refill is safe at this time, or whether it would be prudent to see a provider in person.

Referrals FAQ's

Can Walmart Health Virtual Care's providers order lab tests?

Yes! If necessary, Walmart Health Virtual Care providers may order lab tests for Virtual Primary Care, Men's and Women's Health, and Psychiatry patients. It is your responsibility to complete the lab tests and have the results sent to Walmart Health Virtual Care on time for the provider to review. Please note that our Urgent Care providers will not order lab tests.

Technology & Account Management FAQ's

Why do I need a webcam or video-enabled mobile app?

Some states require a video connection for telehealth visits. Even where it is not required, we recommend a video connection to help our providers deliver the best possible care. When a provider can see you, she/he can better assess and monitor visual cues.

A video connection can be made using your computer's webcam or through the Walmart Health Virtual Care app. For full instructions on setting up an appointment, register or log into your account.

What are the age requirements for using Walmart Health Virtual Care?

Urgent Care: Walmart Health Virtual Care users must be at least 18 years old or have a parent/guardian present at time of visit.

Men's Health and Women's Health: These service lines are available to users 18+.

Talk Therapy: Our Talk Therapy service line is available to users 18+.

Teen Therapy: Teen Therapy is available to users ages 10-17.

Psychiatry: Our Psychiatry service line is available to users 18+.

My 10-year-old daughter is sick – can she use my account for a visit?

No, please create a separate profile for any children, dependents, or spouses. This ensures that each person has his/her own medical profile and record.

What are the technical requirements for using Walmart Health Virtual Care?

A valid email address is required to create your account, and a valid credit card is required to request a visit if you are not part of a plan that covers the visit fee.

Users must have a high-speed Internet connection.

Walmart Health Virtual Care works best with the following browsers: Chrome for computers, androids, and MacBooks; and Safari for iPhone/iPads.

For video consultation, users must have a webcam or video-enabled mobile device.

JavaScript and Cookies should remain enabled.

Data Storage, Documents, & Records Requests FAQ's

Can I get a copy of my medical records?

Yes! Simply log into Walmart Health Virtual Care's patient portal to print or download your medical records. We store medical records as PDF documents, so they are easy to keep or share with your physician.

Can you send my medical record to a designated person, entity, or company?

If you would like us to send or disclose your medical records on your behalf to another person or entity, we require written authorization and signed consent. Additionally, if you would like to request specific restrictions regarding disclosure of your protected health information, that also requires written and signed authorization. Please contact the Walmart Health Virtual Care Team at 855-636-3669 to assist you with any authorizations, restrictions, or privacy concerns.

Can my Walmart Health Virtual Care provider write me an excuse note?

Yes. Your Walmart Health Virtual Care provider can write a note excusing you from school or work for up to 14 days based on their evaluation and clinical judgment. We are unable to write work release notes which would specify temporary or permanent work restrictions based on illness or injury.

How is my information stored?

All data entered within our application is securely and privately stored. Your password and other important data are protected using encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol—the same type of security used by banks.

Our servers are housed in world-class, highly secure data centers utilizing state-of-the art electronic surveillance and multi-factor access control systems. Data centers are staffed 24/7 by trained security guards, and access is authorized strictly on a privileged basis. Additionally, environmental security measures are in place to minimize disruptions to operation. Walmart Health Virtual Care's data storage is spread across several geographic regions and availability zones, allowing us to stay operational during most failure situations, including natural disasters and power outages.
